I'm not sure if there's an easy way to do this, but a client has ~1200 duplicate users based on employee numbers.
The SSO configuration seems to be based off a username that changes a lot. I proposed to them they could update the unique ID to be the employee ID which according to them never changes and would stop further duplicates, however there are already ~1200 or so duplicate users in their system and this number will likely grow.
I mentioned the duplicates should likely be resolved/merged before changing anything, but there's currently no way to easily/quickly do this, it's a manual process.
